Losing it: I had an altercation with a dustcart as I cycled to work (its 25 miles but I can average just over 19mph and do it in an 1 hr 15 mins on a good day). The dustcart won but I did leave my mark in the form of an imprint of my shoulder and ear on his front wing (I'm exploring the possibility of publishing the number plate on my website and starting an urban guerrilla post modernist alternative brass rubbing movement).

I was unconscious for quite a long time and my memories after the accident are hazy. I remember the police taking my bike, saying they'd look after it for me. Nice folk I thought, as I relaxed in semi consciousness and tried not to panic from all the drips they were putting in me and selotaping my head to the stretcher around some frightening neck brace. Trying very hard not to think of the possibility of serious injury. The blood turned out to be from a small cut in my ear crushed ear, but it was pumping. Back at the hospital, got the Upper Class treatment till they'd X-rayed my neck sufficiently to see it wasn't broken. Then became a number again, one that couldn't be released due to the unconsciousness, but there was no interest in my very real agony as it obviously wasn't life threatening.

Once in ward I tried to find out the details of the accident. They couldn't tell me where it happened or who the police where. Upon subsequently calling local police stations I was informed that they'd be in touch once the incident had be written up, which would take two weeks. In the meantime they couldn't help or tell me where my bike was! This was unbelievable - cyclist are supposed to be encouraged, there's no way the police would get away with losing a car for two weeks!!!!
